Paul Eluard

La vita

Paul Eluard – nome d’arte di Eugène Paul Grindel –
nacque a Saint Denis – Parigi -, in ambiente operaio – ma la famiglia
apparteneva alla piccola borghesia degli affari – nel 1895. Seguì gli studi a
Parigi fino al 1912; poi li abbandonò trasferendosi in Svizzera, dove trascorse
due anni in un sanatorio. Qui conobbe una giovane russa, Gala, che sposerà nel
1917 – ma dalla quale divorzierà nel
1931 – e che sarà la prima ispiratrice dei suoi versi. Dopo aver partecipato
alla prima guerra mondiale – su sua richiesta combatté anche in prima linea –
aderì al movimento d’avanguardia del Dadaismo: più tardi fondò con Breton,
Aragon, Soupault, il Surrealismo. Poeta e intellettuale civilmente impegnato,
partecipò alla guerra di Spagna nelle file antifranchiste, e più tardi alla
seconda guerra mondiale nelle file della Resistenza come militante del Partito
Comunista clandestino. Dopo il 1945…
